This fine independent, community-run museum occupies part of a former early 19th century woollen mill and has permanent displays about the history of Dollar and its environs, including Granny鈥檚 Kitchen, Castle Campbell, Dollar Academy and the Devon Valley Railway, including a working model of Dollar Railway Station and Dollar Mine (1943-1970) .听

It has听created and听shown over 150 temporary exhibitions since it opened in 1988 and听current exhibitions are听Local Witches and a听25 metre-long听Timeline of Dollar History,听which听takes visitors on a journey听from geological times to the present day.听There are also听displays on听Floods in Dollar;听The Origin of the Place-name Dollar;听 Were the Romans in Dollar?;听the听History of the Dollar Academy Gardens听and听Dollar Fair听in Olden Times.

There is also a听selection of objects from Dollar Museum Collection, including artefacts illustrating local industries, such as bleaching, mining for coal and copper, and brick- and tile-making, as well as an exhibition of work by significant local artists such as Adam Robson and Jennifer Campbell and听

New for 2024: Dollar Shops听looks at how the 'shopscape' of the town has changed over the years. Some shops, such as the present Dollar Deli, have had many owners while always remaining a grocery store; others have survived but had a number of different uses. Many have disappeared completely; there were over forty shops in the 1950s, far more than there are today. This fascinating exhibition includes many photographs and stories about the shops and the people who owned and worked in them.听
