Leslie is an ancient settlement thought to have developed as an agricultural township that serviced the Royal estate of Fettykil, established by King Malcolm IV no later than 1178.
听
Historians suggest this settlement was close to a church that existed on or around the present site from at least the 10th century, indicating the name Fettykil is derived from Gaelic听cll meaning 鈥榃ooden Kirk鈥�. 听 听It is one of eleven Fife place-names that contains this Gaelic name which form a cluster centred in East Fife, the only area of Scotland south of Inverness to contain such a name.

听There will be a guided tour of the historic graveyard where remnants of the mediaeval church may survive as part of the Douglas and Rothes Mausoleums.
听
Refreshments, tea, coffee, soft drinks, will be available at Leslie Town Hall for a small charge.
