Stone, Sea and Sky - education pack!

Home schooling your kids for the foreseeable future as we all stay safe at home? We've got you covered! OurÌýStone, Sea and Sky toolkitÌýhas just been released and is filled to the brim withÌýideas of how to engageÌýchildren and young people with the buildings, places and spaces around them. And the best part? We've released it in both English and Gaelic!

Most of the toolkit activities can be completed inside - including ideas of how to chat with children aboutÌýabout local buildings and their sense of place,Ìýand an activity for children to redesign buildings in their area. The toolkit does suggest a wee walk outside to see some local buildings; thisÌýcould be completed as your government-allottedÌý. Assuming, of course, that everyone maintains good social distancing!

Stone, Sea and Sky: The Architecture of Scotland’s IslandsÌýwas a ÌÇÐÄVlog Days 30th anniversary project that celebrated theÌýbuildings, places and communities of Scotland’s Western Islands. In September 2019, we hosted free workshops for school pupils across venues in the Western Isles and Argyll and the islands. These workshops encouraged children and young people to gain a sense of the built structures that form local civic identity and explore their local areas through a playful investigation of places.

As a legacy of this project, and in an effort to make these workshops as accessible as possible, we consulted with our partners and two accredited educators to create theÌýStone, Sea and Sky educational toolkitÌý- adapted for use throughout the whole of Scotland.
